That makes two of us, Sparkle. Sadly I don't think these Pollocks are my people. at least not the ones I was hoping they were. Never mind we won't give up. One day......................  A really big THANK YOU  Ann. I, too really appreciate your efforts.
           Thanks
                             Marg.

Hi Ann, please could you see if you can find any trace of my following ancestors:

Thomas McEwen and his wife Janet McEwen (Galbraith). I don't have any dates for them other than their son Quintin was born in Kirkoswald abt. 1790.

Quintin lived in Girvan, but died in Midlothian in 1866. However, I believe that his wife Mary McEwen (McKinnah or McKinnon) b. abt 1788, died in Girvan sometime between 1841 and 1851 (the family were living in Plum Street, Girvan at the time of the 1841 census).

Lastly, the easy one, my great grand aunt Agnes Douglas Rae died at Maidens in 1960 and was buried in Kirkoswald cemetery.

Thanking you in advance
Kind Regards
Stewart

Hi Stewart,

I have checked the books and there are a few McEwen's and McEwan but none with the above names.

I also checked for Agnes Douglas Rae... under Rae and Douglas and couldnt find her in Kirkoswald...

Unless the index in the books are wrong. If you want the names of the other McEwens give me a shout.

Sorry.

Hi Ann, many thanks for taking the time and trouble to look up the inscriptions on my behalf.

It was only Mary McEwen that I thought might have been buried at Girvan. The rest of the family moved to Hawick and Liberton. I therefore don't think that I'd be able to link any other Girvan McEwen MIs to my tree at this point in time but thanks for the inscription offer.

Since Quintin was born in Kirkoswald I wondered if his parents had perhaps died there, but I know it was a long shot given the paucity of available information.

Agnes Douglas Rae though is a bit more puzzling. As I was quite young when she died, I remember not being allowed to attend the funeral but I was taken to visit the grave a few days later in Kirkoswald cemetery. I was taken again about a year later after a small memorial stone had been erected. I haven't been back there for many years but next time I return home to Scotland I will see if I can find her grave.

Many thanks once again, Ann.
I appreciate your time

Ann

I think at least two of the pollocks in Maybole may belong to my family.  My grgrgrandfather was a Thomas Chambers Pollock who died 3 july 1903 aged 89.  He was married to a Margaret Smellie/Smillie who died 12 Mar 1910 I wonder if she is also buried in Maybole?  One of his sisters was Jane Pollock who married a John McClymont and died 13 Jan 1867 aged 60. Is there any more detail for these people?  I would be really grateful for any more info.

Hi

I am interested in finding out if there are any Cathcarts or Lockharts buried in Kirkoswald or the surrounding area.  I have ancestors who lived at Laigh Craigenton in the mid to late 1800s.  Any information gratefully received.

Regards
Christine

Ann

Many thanks for the details they are definitely my relatives and the further details of james Pollock's wife and Jane Pollock's relations give me new information that I had been unable to locate.  Can't thank you enough.

Hi Ann Maria

I would appreciate a lookup in Girvan for Powell family.

Of particular interest are:

James died 7 Aug 1856 - I'm trying to find out who his wife was - the death certificate just says married - his wife may have been Margaret or Isabella.

James died 14 Sept 1894

Thank you, Fairlane
