Hi Karytay

Welcome to Rootschat  ;D

This looks like the family in 1881 - husband / father away at sea? And a pob for Marion....

1881: Hamilton Street, Saltcoats, Old Ardrossan
576/1 - ED 5 / Pg 20, HS 88
Head: Marion TAYLOR 36, Sailors Wife, b Ardrossan, Ayrshire
Son: John C TAYLOR 6, Scholar, b Saltcoats
Son: Archie TAYLOR 3, b Saltcoats
Son: Duncan TAYLOR 1, b Saltcoats

No Catherine S TAYLOR age 6, though...do you have her in any later Census or BMDs?

Cheers

Ah, OK, I see Catherine in 1881....in the household of her maternal Grandad, a little further along Hamilton Street...

Hamilton Street, Saltcoats, Old Ardrossan
Ref: 576/1 - ED 5 / Pg 27, HS 122
Head: John CAMPBELL 73, Railway Servant, b Saltcoats
Dau:  Janet CAMPBELL 26, Genl Servant, b Saltcoats
Niece: Mary TAYLOR 11, Scholar, b Saltcoats
Neice: Kate TAYLOR 6, Scholar, b Saltcoats

In 1891, the TAYLOR children Mary 21, John 16, Archie 13 and Duncan Jnr 11 are all with Auntie Janet CAMPBELL at 38 Hamilton St.   In 1891, just Duncan Jnr 21 is still there with Janet.

No Catherine / Kate here in 1891 or 1901. Do you have anything on her after 1881?

Cheers

Thanks Ambly, that's the last info I have of her. She seem of disappeared. Her twin was my great grandfather who came to South Africa.
Now I am wondering if she could of died at a young age? since I cannot find anything more about her.

Her parents both downed at sea on the 2 Feb 1899. Her father was the First Mate of the ship Roseneath that sank. So all the children ended up staying with aunt Janet Campbell and grand father John Campbell.

Hi

The shipping tragedy  :( in 1889, explains the children with their Grandfather & Aunt in 1891.

The event was reported n Newspapers across the globe!
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nzbound/wrecks.htm
Timaru Herald (NZ) Wednesday 6 February 1889
London, Feb. 5
"Wreck of the Roseneath The Roseneath, which was on the berth at Glasgow for Adelaide, was totally wrecked at Port Patrick. Mr Taylor, the mate, his wife and son, and three of the crew, were drowned"

http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/13717051?searchTerm=Roseneath
The son was aged 4 apparently, and the only one of the children on the ship.

So not Catherine who died in 1889 .....

Cheers

There is something else! Catherine's oldest sister changed her name after her mother died from Marion Wilson Taylor to Marion Campbell Taylor b. 1866 d. 1950
Do you think that Catherine did the same? Form Catherine Sinclair Taylor to Catherine Campbell Taylor.
