Muirkirk Birth

Hi can anyone decipher the place of Birth for Margaret Wilson daughter of my 4 x Great Grandparents. The birth is Muirkirk I am presuming the place of birth is the name of a Farm ? i looks like it begins with a J.

What year is this birth entry please?

Hi sorry I should have said year is 1781, is that a place you have heard of or seen on a map ?

The couple William Wilson and Margaret Bell appear to have a second daughter in 1788 - Jane Wilson  -  https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XTKH-V7Z

Perhaps you have already tried looking at the OPR for Jane  :-\ . Maybe it could have a more legible place name?

I think the word is "Jointerhouse".

If you Google it, the word is used elsewhere, but appears to be archaic, and not found in many up to date dictionaries (except perhaps the OED).

However the word "Jointure" is currently in use, and defined as follows :-
Jointure
a. provision made by a husband for his wife by settling property upon her at marriage for her use after his death
b. the property so settled.

It would seem appropriate therefore to identify what the property was, eg land, livestock etc, or in this case, a house.  - Jointure house, or Jointerhouse.

I agree with Looby that a search through the OPR's might help identify the location of the property, failing which, if a will made by your ancestor was registered, a copy of it may lie within the records held at Scotland's People.
