Margaret THOMAS - Milliner in Cardigan
« on: Friday 29 March 13 01:43 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I've found that my great great grandmother's sister was a Milliner and employed staff in 1881 census. In 1901 census she is listed as a Millinary Shopkeeper in Cardigan. Is there any business records between 1881 and 1901 that might show where she had a shop? Her younger sister Marianna also worked as a Millinary assistant. Their residence was at 6 Bridge St, Cardigan in these census records.

I can't find her or her sisters (Jane & Marianna) in the 1911 census and am unsure what happened to them.

Many thanks,
Mel

Slaters 1880 Directory of North and South Wales at www.historicaldirectories.org has her listed under Milliners and Dressmakers at High Street Cardigan. When you find the directory use the search term-Thomas Margaret-there are 88 hits, but use "next hit" till you find it(page 106-the image number does not usually match the page number,so searching by this method usually requires an "offset")

Regards
Roger
