PS bit of luck.  Have found that Lieutenant's logbook for HMS RYE 1696 - 1703 is held at Royal Museums Greenwich and can be viewed, this should have a record of John Docton's death.  http://collections.rmg.co.uk/archive/objects/529611.html one to add to the list of archive visits  8)
