Cherrington family in Kandy, Ceylon, India.

Hi Folks,

          I am looking for help please I am working on my nieces late fathers family, her g-g-grandfather was Richard Duncan Cherrington down as a Jailer and Jail Superintendent his wife was Elizabeth Kirkwood, his son my nieces g-grandfather was Richard Cherrington born Abt 1873 he joined the Gordon Highlanders in 1889 in Ceylon and died in Edinburgh 1943.

If at all possible I am looking for dates of birth please on Richards brothers and sisters who were all born in Kandy.

hi there, can't believe I found your post, not really expecting to find the info I was looking for.Sorry I don't have the info you are looking for but you have just given me Alice Elizabeth Cherrington who married Frederick Stuart or Steward Driver in Ceylon, not sure what date but their daughter was born in 1885, Gertrude Maud Emily Driver. They Had another child a son born 1892 William, and they are in the 1901 census at Freshwater Isle of Wight.Have been trying to find out about what work Frederick Driver was doing in Ceylon so your post may help there too.Gertrude married Charles Frederick Russell whose military records are om ancestry.Their daughter Rhona is the grandma to my daughter in law. I also found something on a website which has some foreign records and mentioned Henrietta H Cherrington and Bridget Mary Cherrington. Very difficult to read but seemed to say Ceylon 1882 413 for both. I was looking up marriages but not sure that was what I got.Hope to hear from you know it was a year ago but interested to see if you have made progress. Best wishes euansma

Are you a member of Ancestry.co.uk if so there are some wonderful photos that one of the members has on her Tree, I have some stuff I could email to you if you wish, if you want to do this then please send me your private email address on the private message board.

Alice Cherrington was married to Frederick Steward Driver and yes they were in the Isle of Wight, again the member in Ancestry as I said has photos.

              thanks for replying, unfortunately I can't give out any email addresses but tell Rhona that on Ancestry she has some cousins and I am sure they will be delighted to hear from her, if she goes on this is part of the tree I have made up http://trees.ancestry.co.uk/tree/59884620/family from here she should see the others.
