Hi,

Not all ages on certificates are right.    I have an relative who put their age up by 5 years because they were marrying an older man.

Whatever information we find, we take with a grain of salt until proven.

Hi Poodlz.........

You mention having obtained a certified certificate. It is cheaper to request a printout. These may contain more information and can include signatures of our ancestors as they are like a photocopy of the registration document. Can also be e-mailed to you which is another plus.  :)

I noticed elsewhere on my records that Mary's surname Hull has been transcribed as "Hall"  Just speculation here, we know that the shipping clerks often transcribed the surnames as they heard it or the way it sounded to their ears.    Possible that Bell could be transcribed as "Ball"?

As I said just speculation, and often we think outside the square ;D

This post is a natural hand made product. The slight variations in spelling and grammar enhance its individual character and beauty and in no way are to be considered flaws. Unfortunately my preferred method of writing (Parker Quink on Basildon Bond) cannot be used.

Interesting; there is a Hull Road in Waiuku. Named after John HULL, perhaps?

Do you know what he did?

It looks as though he tweaked his age as he was marrying a 20 yr old

Yes, exactly what we mentioned earlier, correct ages were not always given.
