Jen,

I can't see anything in my resources where Owen's resting place is, but if you look on the web, putting his name in quotes, a bit comes up for him.

Perhaps getting the death printout which is the cheaper option and has more information, and can be emailed to you, might reveal where he is.

Wow!

I posted my question just before I went to bed last night and this morning we are on to page two! Thank you so much for your replies and information.

I think that posting in the Australian board would make sense as I am mostly interested in what happened to Sydney L Williams after WW1 and whether or not his family has any further knowledge of his war service. I very much doubt whether he and my great-uncle James had any contact before they found themselves together in the war years.

I feel extraordinarily sad that although Sydney and James were recommended together for the military medal, only Sydney was actually awarded it. I suppose that if he received it in 1918, although the recommendation happened in 1916 when they were on the Somme, any medal awarded to James would have been posthumous as he died in 1917. Maybe that simply didn't happen.

I shall go to the Australian boards with questions about his later life. Many thanks.

Yes, I think the Australian board is your best bet ... and perhaps getting a copy (at Ryerson Index) of the death notices for Sydney and his wife.     (Just to save duplication, perhaps  provide the link to this NZ Board thread ? )

Looking at Australian Electoral rolls (@ ancestry) its seems that Sydney Lory WILLIAMS and his wife, Marion Ellen, may have had a son - who appears living with them firstly in 1954 (NSW - Wollstonecraft electorate) and lastly in 1968 when they have a change of address.  I haven't posted his name as he may still be living.
