Looking for any help with finding out what happened to my 2x ggrandmother Mary Barnes.
What I do know:
Marriage at St Nicholas Church, Plumstead, 21 Jul 1883
Mary Barnes, full age, spinster, Plumstead, father James Barnes, Hawker
Thomas James Puplett, full age, bachelor, Waterman/Lighterman, father Thomas James Puplett, Waterman/Lighterman, both signed, witnesses G W King & Annie Puplett (sister to Thomas).
1891 census: 10 The Dwellings, Battersea
Thomas & Mary ( age given as 24, born Woolwich, which would mean age 16 at time of marriage?) and their four children: Mary Rosina 1885, Thomas Jas 1886, John Edward 1889 & Samuel George 1891.
Thomas senior dies 25 Apr 1896 and his death certificate lists his address as 7 Crescent Place, High Street, Battersea.
This is where I lose Mary, I have not found a likely birth, the only James Barnes, Hawker (c 1820 Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire ) that I can find is married to a Caroline (c 1822 St Pancras, General Shop Keeper) in 1881, living in 20 Wilderness St, Bermondsey. In 1891 this James is a widower, a port watchman, living in Long Lane Bermondsey, not found in 1871.
I have found her sons Thomas, John & Samuel in 1901 (Thomas with his paternal GM, John & Sam in Industrial School, no sign of Mary Rosina) & 1911 i have found all four children. John dies in battle in 1915 and Thomas, Samuel and Mary Rosina are well traced from then on in. I also have everything I need on the Pupletts prior to their marriage.
Mary Puplett formerly Barnes then has another daughter, also named Mary on 1 Oct 1904 at Newington Workhouse, no father named, her address at the time is 99 Mint Street, which appears to be a common boarding house for women. Baby Mary dies October 1905, this is my last sighting of Mary? Other known facts is that John & Samuels military records list only siblings as next of kin, Thomas's military records appear to be destroyed unfortunately!
Where is Mary Rosina in 1901?
What happens to Mary Barnes? Who were her parents?
Any help with finding Mary would be greatly appreciated as I have been stuck on this for a very long time. Also, as far as the Puplett's go, I have traced them as completely as possible going back many generations so please don't waste time there on my behalf.
Thanking you in great hope,
Jo
