England & Wales marriages 1538-1940. COMPLETED
« on: Thursday 17 April 14 07:46 BST (UK) »
How do I access these records ? Recently someone on a genealogy site kindly looked up an entry for me but didn't tell me how to do it. I would like to be able to do it myself.
I presume I would have to go to the National Archives site. Trouble is I always seem to have a problem moving round this site and generally give up.
So I hope  someone can tell me the simplest way to view these records.

They are available on Ancestry, but by no means complete.

If you don't have access to Ancestry, there are also some here:

https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1473015

As Carol has said, these listings are not complete.

Hi

The source of this database is the British Isles Vital Records Index 2nd edition which originally were I think CDs produced by the Latter Day Saints. As has been stated they are on Ancestry but they are only indexes, the original Parish Registers would be in the relevant local archives. The National Archives does not have them

Another source here:

http://www.findmypast.co.uk/articles/world-records/search-all-uk-records/birth-marriage-death--and-parish-records/marriages/parish-marriages-1538-2005

These might have images of the parish records but, as with Ancestry, FindMyPast is a pay site. The ref I previously gave is probably extracted  from the British Isles Vital Records index.
