Taking a wild guess, was your man from a Liverpool family, father Thomas?

Thank you again Max and Jim. Your logic and explanations have helped a lot.

Unfortunately I have no knowledge of any awards or their whereabouts.

A wild guess? You are spot on Max.  ;D

Please tell me how you worked that out. (or did you check my previous threads?  ;)I notice I have mentioned him on a couple of threads in the past, but had forgotten about them.  :-[)

I have a fair amount of information about the family both backwards and forwards, so can provide further information if it helps track my WW down.

Telepathy.  More truthfully, you had previously mentioned he was a brewers assistant in 1911.  I guessed at his date of birth being about 1890 from the look of him on his photo and the first brewers assistant called WW I could find was son of Thomas and Margaret born 1893 Liverpool.

Having identified which WW we are talking about, the thought process was to have a look another look to see if any army records have survived for him.  The medal cards don't have the sort of personal info on them to be able to tell one William Wright from another unless one has some other clues.  However, as I'm sure you know, 60% of WW1 records were destroyed in WW2 bombing so it is a long shot.  Watch this space!

Thanks Max.

At one point I thought you might have miraculously found some long lost record, then I re-read some of my old threads which I had completely forgotten about. (I noted some wrong info on some of them). I initially felt a bit guilty reposting about the same chap, but there are new records coming online all the time, and I had not posted the photo before so trying to match photo with medal card is attacking the puzzle from a different angle. (that's what I've been telling myself anyway).

You are correct with his dob being 1893 - he was born 21 May 1893 in Liverpool.

I will definitely watch this space.  ;D

Hi Ruskie
I fear that the space I suggested you watch is going to remain unfilled - at least by me.  Despite much mouse clicking and the odd bout of RSI in the last couple of weeks, I can find no service record for your William Wright dob 1893 Liverpool so, as far as I can tell, his were among the 60% of records that went up in smoke during WW2.  Pity.  Enjoyed looking though.

Rgds

Thank you very much for trying MaxD.

I am not surprised that there is nothing to be found.

I might try contacting some cousins, his grandchildren, who may know something more, though to my knowledge none of them ever met him, but perhaps they know the whereabouts of his medals which might give me some clues.  :)

PS. Hope your RSI doesn't put you out of action for too long.  ;D
