hi

how can I find out what battalion my great great grandfather was in, his name is Ronald William Corkhill and was in the Kings Liverpool regiment, reg No 88335.

any help with this or any war record info would really help with my research

Over 60% of WW1 service records were burnt during the WW2 blitz so no trace online of your ancestors record.

He was awarded the British & Victory medals according to the Medal Roll Index

His battalion should be given in his medal roll entry - transcripts have recently come online:

His Medal Roll index entry only gives his name, rank (private) reg number, regiment and medal details

Try http://www.nmarchive.com/ and search for him.  This is for the medal roll, not the medal roll index. 

It's another subscription site - £5 for a day £50 a year also weekly/monthly rates.  I haven't subscribed yet - but I am at Kew often enough to look up the rolls for free.  I might sign up when/if they have the original images as well as transcripts.
