Looking for a marriage please between Alexander Mclean and Margaret Mcbean around 1760s-1770s
Think he had a Son Donald Born circa 1770 in Fort William in Inverness or argyll
donald married a  Christina MCPHEE Yet to find their marriage also
The children were born in Kilmalie Inverness

I was just looking through some old posts on other forums on info re Donald and wife Christina. I am comfused though! Was Donald's father Donald or Allan? Seems to be quite a lot of posts supporting Allan for Donald's father.

Lotsa MCLEANS from inverness and Argyl too,,Yes i think ive seen the father listed as Allan too, till i saw a tree on ancestry saying parents were Alexandar Mclean and Margaret McBean
Age of donald fits tho as on his death here he would have been born around 1771
It states he was born Fort william but could have been in a nearby Parish
Donald and Christina did have a daughter called Margaret
He did name his Sons Alistair, Donald, Allen, john, hugh and archibald

Cathy, as I am sure you know, don't take as a fact what you see on other people's trees unless you are able to see how this information has been verified - use it simply as a guide until you are hopefully able to verify.

There are also other trees on Ancestry that show other parents for Donald (eg. Alexander Mclean and Margaret McPherson).

I think one of the problems that you are all having may be down to the fact that OPR records for births for Kilmallie, the parish for Fort William, do not seem to exist before 1773 - LDS show the first set of OPRs for births available for that parish as C115202 batch for 1773-1823. So, if Donald was born 1770-72, I am not sure you will be able to find his entry  Likely some siblings may show post 1773 but you don't have enough information on parents for Donald to be able to connect them all.

Yes if Parish registers dont exist before those dates i might have buckleys finding out who his parents were
I sometimes use the childrens names as a guide too, as often named after siblings of that person etc, also i look at middle names too, sometimes a surname sometimes relevant info re a direct female line going back too
Did u check the message i had re MCDONALDS, my friend here has a direct line of them thru fort william, wonder if they married into our MCLEANS*grin*

Don't think anyone answered your question regarding whether Dores was close to Fort William. Depends what you mean by close, its about 60 miles by road nowadays, probably further at the end of the 18th century. Dores and surrounding areas are strongholds of the McBean name and have been since the 16th century at least.
