Willins (or Wellins) family from Durham to Holyhead about 1771
« on: Tuesday 05 August 14 17:59 BST (UK) »
Joseph Willins and Ann Wright were married at St Helen Auckland, Durham on 30 Nov 1773, their son, also named Joseph, was born in the same parish on 3 Jul 1774.

Surprisingly the family then appear to have settled at Holyhead, Anglesey where the following children were born:

John baptised 25 Feb 1776 (son of Joseph Willins, labourer, by Ann), buried 8 Mar 1776.
Catherine & Margaret bpt. 26 Jan 1777 (twin daughters of Joseph Wellins by Ann his wife). Margaret buried 12 Feb 1777.
Jane bpt. 30 Apr 1780 (daughter of Joseph Wellins by Ann his wife)
Joseph bpt. 14 Jun 1782 (son of Joseph Willins, farmer, by Ann his wife)

In 1802 Jane Willins married William Jones at Holyhead - they are my gt(x3) grandparents.

Joseph Willins (senior) died 1815 at Holyhead, age 75, his wife Ann died 1810, age not given.
There is an Ann Wright born 1743 (or 1744) at St Helen Auckland, Durham, daughter of John Wright.

(The family name often appears mis-transcribed as Willens, Williams, Willis etc.)

I wonder whether anyone is researching Willins and Wright from this parish and can make some connections.

Their move from Durham to Anglesey seems odd - any suggestions about how or why they would have made the journey?, did other families make the journey?
