Matthew Wilde
« on: Wednesday 02 April 14 16:32 BST (UK) »
Matthew was my great grandfather's brother, born in Norwich Norfolk UK in 1863.  He married Sarah Ann Howard  in Norwich in 1887 and they had 2 daughters Annie Emma (1891) and Mary Hester (1900).  In 1911, after the Uk 1911 census(!) Mathew (as he spelt his name) took his family and they settled in Amherst Cumberland Nova Scotia where he died in 1955 and Sarah died in 1946.
The 2 daughters married:
Annie Emma married George Burton Milner (1885 Dorchester New Brunswick) in 1914 and Mary Hester married Alfred William Proffett (1885 Hoxton London, in Canada between 1906-1927 and then 1927-?)
I am interested in finding out if possible when Annie, Mary and their spouses died and whether they had children.  I realise that any children may still be living.  Having looked at Collections Canada I have located the marriage records for the girls and the death records for Mathew and Sarah.  Mary interestingly is the informant on Mathew's death and gives her name as Mary Wilde.
Thanks for any help.

Hi,

Mary Wilde appears as Miss Mary Wilde on the Canada Voters Lists - the last entry 1974 - Cumberland; Colchester, Nova Scotia, Canada - Mary is retired and still living at number 115 Victoria Street West  with Mrs Annie Milner.

Canada Voters List 1965 - Cumberland, Nova Scotia, Canada - Mary was listed as a book-keeper at 115 Victoria Street West with George Milner retired and Mrs George Milner.

Presume George has died between 1965 - 1974.

115 seems to have been the family home address on the Canada Voters List from 1935 when Mr and Mrs Matthew Wilde, Mary Wilde and Mr and Mrs George Milner all lived there.

Fibs about his age several years so he might not sound so old to his younger bride...
I now see you had the marriage in N.S. so the other dates must signify entries into Canada?

First child listed Alfred George was born in England 1905 ( He came to canada c.1906 and the she & son followed in 1907

http://vitalstats.gov.mb.ca/Query.php  Frank Arthur born 1910
http://genealogy.ehealthsask.ca/vsgs_srch.aspx Violetta Maud's birth 1908 although says wrong surname for mother...There are 1913 & 1915 deaths for Prfit, no parents listed but the Ontario birth 1913 tends to lead that they've gone in that direction

There appears to be some activity for Ada around the 2nd marriage of Alfred, and I don't see a divorce in Canada, so perhaps he was not "widowed" as he stated... She may have found out he was actually married, and had children...Her marriage would have been null and void in that case, making her single.

The late Registration of Birth PANB has GEORGE BURTON MILNER
parents Robert Francis MILNER, Ella Bernice Cook, 10 April 1885

In 1921 all ( Matthew, Sarah, Mary ) are living with George ( transcribed as Misner) & Annie who have no children in household  http://www.rootschat.com/links/0yuv/  115 lower victoria St.  Amherst, NS as Sandra has already found.  A lovely quiet looking road  http://www.rootschat.com/links/0yux/  looking at the google maps image.
Brother William Milner & Matilda & 3 children next door at 117 He and George are both carpenters
Mother Emma lives at 97 with a few of George's siblings ( there were MANY!!!) and that is likely the same house the family was in 1911 www.automatedgenealogy.com/census11/View.jsp?id=5216&highlight=22

oh, no! I saw Myrtle coming into Canada in age 10 but then looked to see who else was with her....nobody....so I checked....She came as a Home Child....
Unwanted children, or too expensive to care for, or the parent wanted to start over with a new spouse who didn't want children. They were sent to Canada to work for almost nothing, indentured to their employer for years...urg, poor gal. She's have been made someone's domestic.
No wonder she couldn't remember her mother's name...so perhaps the couple moved back to England and separated there....Shipping records into U.K. would tell more.

Sorry, I know it veers off topic, but this is a Family History site, and I post what I find while searching....someone may look for this gal one day and wonder why Myrtle isn't in the U.K. with the rest of the family....It also gives a glimpse at the man who married your rellie....

I imagine your Mary Hester was better off without the fellow.

Annie Emma Wilde (Milner) of 115 West Victoria Street in Amherst was my grandmother.  Her father, Matthew Wilde, was my great-grandfather. My mother, Kathleen Mary Elizabeth Milner, was an only child. My mother just celebrated her 90th birthday earlier this month.

My great aunt was married,as recorded in the thread, but her marriage was annulled. She never re-married.

CG Teacher probably has to make one more post before the pm system will work - the rule is usually two posts for newbies.
