Hello James.   From looking at my notes I can't see a close connection to our two lines but there is probably a link further back in the mists of time.  Briefly my tree is as follows:

Great-grandfather was James N (b 1850) m Sarah Maria
GG-grandfather was John N (b 1817) m Julia
GGG-grandfather was James N (b 1794) m Esther
GGGG-grandfather was William N (b 1754) m Jane
GGGGG-grandfather was Thomas N (b 1715) m Susanna
GGGGGG-grandfather was Henry N (d 1756) m Elizabeth.

Don't know if this helps!  I'm happy to liaise further.

Yes, it's tricky to be sure with so many James and John Neve's around the area. I've only used online records and the Kent records for marriages, which are very useful for checking fathers and occupations,  are very bare unlike other parts of the country, unless you buy copies of the actual certificates.
I seem to have a John Neve born in 1822 who was the brother of my great great grandfather James Neve born in 1820 and he married Julia Iden in 1845. Their father was another James Neve born in 1796 who married Esther Barden in 1816. He later married again and had more children.
Interestingly John and Julia had 4 children - Jane 1845, George 1846, John 1848 and James 1850.
It could just be similar names and close dates.
