Jill on the A272 ,

That's good to know. Wonder whether my father was there in 1938.

 Nanny Jan,

This is the only one I have of my father in uniform. Taken just after my brother was born 1943 - Brighton. Not a great one, though.

On the shoulder it could be Home Guard; above the pocket shows the medals won in WW1 (I think).  Perhaps if you re-post it on the Armed Forces board (don't forget to rename the photo) one of our experts will be able to help you.

 Nanny Jan,

Have posted it the restoration to see if someone can improve the photo and make out what it says. If no joy there, will try the Armed forces board.

Could well be the medals won in WW1 as he was in the Somme.

Thank you for all your help. Everyone has been so kind and helpful, regarding my father. Means a lot to me.

Have a made a little progress regarding my father's search in Brighton. It seems he worked with the Inland Revenue from the 1930's he was with them when he was in Brighton 1940/1943.

In his diary it shows he was transferred from Ayr (Scotland) to Hitchen , in September 1935. So, now I would like to know when he went to Brighton.

The Civil Service should have records of past employees so it might be worth contacting them.
