Any civil war experts out there?
« on: Wednesday 24 September 14 22:11 BST (UK) »
My gg grandfather was named after an uncle who died in the civil war. I know his unit, and according to a familysearch tree, date and place of death.

Can anyone help me with battles in the area, if diec due to a battle wound and where buried?

That's sort of a tough one without knowing his name and his state and unit number.  If you do a Google search on the unit [e.g., Company G, 32d Regiment, Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry] you will probably find its history, the battles fought and the losses incurred.
Wiltshire:  Banks, Taylor
Somerset:  Duddridge, Richards, Barnard, Pillinger
Gloucestershire:  Barnard, Marsh, Crossman
Bristol:  Banks, Duddridge, Barnard
Down:  Ennis, McGee
Wicklow:  Chapman, Pepper
Wigtownshire:  Logan, Conning
Wisconsin:  Ennis, Chapman, Logan, Ware
Maine:  Ware, Mitchell, Tarr, Davis

The name is Barbour Carpenter DRAKE, and its sometimes listed as BC Drake.

I saw on Familysearch that some put down that he died on 19 May 1862 at the military hospital at Staunton Virginia.

He was a confederate, and in two companies:
9th Batallion, Virginia Infantry Hansbrough, Company A... Which was then merged to 25th Regiment Virginia Infantry Hecks, Company A.

You can contact the manager of the memorial and provide any other information you may have: i.e. his full name, date of birth, and any biographical information you may have.  Also, if you want, you might request the memorial be transferred to you, giving your relationship.  If the manager isn't related, he/she may or may not transfer the memorial to you.   You can also request that a photo be taken of the tombstone, if there is one.
