Looking for information on a JN Smith listed in the tax records for later 1700's and early 1800's.  He is on the tax record as proprieter of downhill farm, downhill lane, hailey,oxon,uk.  Does this means he owns the property.  any help appreciated.

Proprietor generally meant property owner, so I think it is fairly safe to say Mr Smith owned the farm.
