I am looking for anything about John francis Stapleton born circa 1914 New York, his mother died not long after his birth { I think) as his father William brought him back to Ireland saying he was a widow so Williams mum could look after him in 1919.Williams parents were John and Margaret Stapleton of Tipperary.

I had a look for married Margaret Stapleton in 1911 census and found 2 with husband John but one is only married a year so can't be her
This is the other http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai003319625/ do any of the names look familiar?
John Francis is too late for the census available so far, what are you hoping to find about him?

Do you have a birth date for William - May help to get mother's maiden name and identify the correct Stapleton family.

Hello,

You may already have this

23 August 1919 ship- Adriatic

William F Stapleton 22 yrs Iron Worker
John F Stapleton 4 yrs

Going to Cooleen - the writing isn't that clear and I thought it may be Coobeen but the family already found are living in Cooleen.

Ellis Island site has William emigrating October 1910 on the Oceanic going to his brother James Stapleton in NY.

Regards
Heywood

Think this is the family in 1901 http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Tipperary/Thurles_Town/Stradavoher/1715972/
With their 10 living children but no William so that can't be the right family!

It looks like the right family with Clement such an unusual name.

I suppose not -Possibly the best thing to do is to get a birth record for William and get mother's maiden name would help to eliminate wrong families. However the passenger list showing Cooleen and the match with the 1911 Census was interesting.  I suppose it depended on whether William's brother James emigrated to NY before 1910.

Possibility for birth William Stapleton

Event Date:   Apr - Jun 1897
Event Place:   Thurles, Ireland
Registration Quarter and Year:   Apr - Jun 1897
Registration District:   Thurles
Volume Number:   3
Page Number:   484

Added: Checked that further Father's name is not John
The only William I can see with the correct parents had a birth & baptism date of 1885

The passenger list shows his father as John of Cooleen. Going off the ages in census, could he be Tobias?

The 1897 birth would be too young.
