Thanks again.

I have looked through what info I now have and I think I have been trying to trace the wrong Barnabas Hamilton.  The bc I was working from shows dob as 10/4/1830 and parents John Hamilton and Catherine Fraser.  From info given his parents are Robert Hamilton and Helen Dempster.

I am still trying to find his bc but from each document his age is different, his mc to Margaret (I got his mc to Agnes).

Hi Tom,

I don't think this ties in.  Barnabas was married twice - first to Margaret Stevenson and secondly to Agnes Bell if I am on the right track.   His age varies from document to document.  However a wealth of information is emerging.  I'll need to get it into better order.

Hi Sandra,

I think you may have got records mixed up between the different Barnabas Hamiltons and indeed a Barney Hamilton. Barney's parents were Robert Hamilton and Helen Dempster, so what certificate makes you think they were correct parents? Unfortunately, there were a few Barnabas and Barney Hamiltons around East Lothian at the same time, and you may have to go back to grandparents and work forward again. Maybe post the grandparents here and some of the rootschatters will assist you.

Hi Tom,

I originally had John Hamilton and Catherine Fraser as the parents of Barnabas but then I discovered two Barnabases married to a Margaret.

My grandfather Robert White sp bc 14/1/1884, parents Gordon White and Eliza Hamilton married 9/12/1870

Eliza Hamilton sp bc 30/6/1851 parents Barnabas Hamilton and Margaret Stevenson
Barnabas Hamilton sp dc 3/2/1902 married to 1 Margaret Stevenson 2 Agnes Bell parents Robert Hamilton and Helen Dempster. lds marriage record show 22/9/1849.

1861 shows they have a daughter Eliza who is 9 so that tallies with above bc.

lds marriage record for Robert Hamilton and Helen Dempster 23/12/1825.

lds record Barney 12/8/1827 parents Robert Hamilton and Helen Dempster.

There is some more info but I'll wait to see if this is right before going any further.
