I am now turning my attentions to John and Mary Lenton's marriage details in the hope that I might gleen a little more information from there.

I have discovered from the '1837 on line' site that there were two John Lentons who got married in Foleshill in 1847 - one in July-September and the other in October-December.

Can somebody kindly advise me on how to use the Checking Reference facility on '1837 online'to find out? It's not very clear on the site and when I 'phoned them to ask  the woman who took my call  didn't know either!

Sorry to be so dim!

Many thanks

Lyndsey

Hi Lyndsey

Been reading through the messages, and found yours with your surname interest on LENTON.

My great x3 grand father was a James Lenton born around 1801 in Exhall in Coventry.  He married a Mary Martin  (born 1809 Bedworth)  in 1828 in Exhall.

James was an Agricultural Labourer and his wife Mary was a Ribbon Weaver. In 1841 they were living in Leicester Street, Foleshill and 1851 living in Black Bank, Foleshill.

I don't know if there is a connection between your family and mine.  I came to a standstill with my side of the Lentons, so concentrated on other families.  I am trying to find out anything more of James Lenton, he could have been born in Exhall, as what the census says or he could have been born elsewhere. But I am not having much luck with him at all, have tried several websites but have not found anything more as yet.

Hi Janette

Thanks for your e-mail - sorry - I don't think I'm going to be of much help to you as I have not had a lot of luck with the Lenton's either!

I never did find John Lenton on the 1941 census. I went up to Warwick Record Office earlier this year (who were extremely helpful) and I believe I found John's parents William Lenton and Elizabeth Everton who married in 1813 and a brother called William born in 1816. I think there were other siblings but I ran out of time! I do hope to return at some point and continue looking.

Undoubtably there were a lot of Lenton's around and my guess is that they were all related in one way or another. I'll keep your message and if I do ever come across a James Lenton I'll let you know.

Meanwhile, Good Luck!

Regards

Lyndsey

Janette

I think this message is for you - I don't have a James Lenton in my tree.

Hopefully this marks the end of your brick wall!

Lyndsey

Hi Jim

Thanks for this information.  It is possible that this is the birth of my James Lenton.

Thanks again

Hi Tracy,

Welcome to RootsChat :)

The Lenton's mention on this thread are all from Warwickshire so are most likely not to be connected to your line.

We do have a section for Northamptonshire, where it be useful you posting some details of your Lenton family, names dates ages etc
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?board=27.0

I also searched RootsChat for Lenton posts in Northamptonshire and there are 17 other posts.

Regards

Sarah :)
