hello uncle t - will get some copies of what ive got and get them to you - the medal book didn't give a exact reason for the dsr medal - but Ive got a copy of that as well so will get then to you when I can

Thanks Hipster, I'm still hoping to find something about the medal . I thought I'd got something when I went to www.mcdoa.org.uk/ww_ii_awards_for_rn_minesweeping_T.htm but although there are Turners listed  there,Dad isn't. Never mind ,maybe something will turn up soon. Cheers. Uncle T

As "crimea1845" posted, it looks like he was awarded the "Distinguished Service Cross" as part of the King's birthday celebrations.
Have a look at the heading on page 13 and then the last name, right hand column, page 15.

Hello Malky and thanks for the post. It would be good to find out why Dad was awarded his medal. I've searched just about everywhere I can think of to see if there's some information on it ,but can't find out anything. Keeping my fingers crossed that someone out there knows something.

my cake making days are over as dad didn't appreciated all the dead birds on his lawn - the book of medals said something along that line about being awarded for keeping up moral nothing about rescuing someone during a fire - dad said he was told the same story but he was also told others so he never knew what was real or not
