Hi Ruskie

I was fortunate enough to be able to get three full sets of records for family members so I don't have any experience of the reduced versions. As I understand it the personal details are excluded according to a standard format and the approach does not vary from individual to individual. I guess the costs remain the same because the amount of clerical work involved is much the same in every case. The precise criteria are explained in Spikey's link. Somewhere I got the idea that if we wait patiently we might see these records released to the National Archives in about 2021. I suppose some of us may not be around to take advantage!

Thank you Imber. Something for me to consider.

Davemed, if you apply for the service records you only have to wait about a year. Good luck if you decide to go ahead and apply.  :)

Hi Dave,

This is my mother's uncle,

Mod Comment (Name of living person removed as per Rootschat Policy)

Her father Lawrence was his brother. They are from Bryn in Wigan (Lancashire). We live in Canada now. If you would like more info let me know and I can put you in touch with her.

p.s: I noticed you had him listed as Owen and not Owens, so perhaps it's not the same James. But my mother looked at the picture and said it was him so....
Also more info, there were 12 siblings (James included), 4 boys and I believe the rest were girls. Hope that helps.
