There is a two volume set of MIs for Renfrewshire published in 1992.

These books are still in print.

Your local FHS or Library or LDS Family History Centre may have them on the shelf or be able to borrow them for you.

Unfortunately, many of the stones that were readable back then are now lost, broken or illegible.

The Renfrewshire FHS has a project to index the burial registers from the Old Parish Regiters of the Church of Scotland.  They may be able to help.

Hi Murray 61

Thank you.
I will have a look and see if they have the books in Clydebank Library next week.

Pettsy,

The Mitchell Library in Glasgow has a very large collection of MI transcriptions.

Are you in the area? Otherwise, I'll take a look for you.

Justin

Hi Justin,
I will be staying in Glasgow, but our first day I am being picked up in the morning to visit Clydebank where my great grandfather lived, then onto Glencoe.

The next day I am going straight to Edinburgh NAS, to copy some wills, army pay books and letters during WW1, then onto the Wallace Memorial,  Stirling Castle and Falkirk wheel.

I hope to get back in time to visit the Mitchell  :-\
But if not I would be very gratefull if you could take a look for me, only if you are in the area.

I really need another couple of days in Glasgow.

Thank you.

Hello Pettsy,

Quite a hectic schedule! Are you travelling far to come here?

Anyway, I was in the ML yesterday and looked through the MI's for Paisley.

There were very few entries for Munn. The only possibility was:

James Munn, manufacturer, Paisley, 1839

The gravestone was in the Abbey Close cemetery (aka Henderson's Kirkyard). At the time, it was used by the United Secession church.

The Abbey parish was quite large. I'll widen the search.

Hi Justin,
Mum and I are coming up from London.
I will meet up with my cousin for on the Thursday, as we don't drive  :-[

Are the MI's on the same floor as the census?
And are they on Micro Film?

My James Munn was a Publican, he had a son called James, it could be him? Do you know how old he was?

Thank you for looking for me  ;)

Regards

Pettsy

Hello Pettsy,

I'd love to make it back down to London again, and visit all my family sites.

The MI's are books and they are on shelves adjacent to those holding the census records.

Unfortunately, James' age was not recorded on the stone. I'll check the early trade directories for any Munn entries.

Were all the Munns born in Paisley?

Justin

I know they are books  :-[ Whats wrong with me today  ??? ???

If you ever need any help in London let me know.
School hol's is starting this week, but I can still manage to get out and do some research.
I want to go back to the William Wallace Memorial in London to take some photo's.

The Munn's were in Paisley and  Old Kilpatrick.

I have a Publican, a hairdresser, grocer, and gardener.

Thanks for your help.
