Lol...I meant in the book...so I presume it is a Story - and not a compilation of several Blacksmiths ??

I'm with you Allan,
The book is not fiction. It deals with all sorts of aspects of blacksmithing and inserts names throughout. Unfortunately the index is not comprehensive so Neston & Oakes are not to be quickly checked but I have scanned through the pages and haven't found anything of interest for you. The nearest is mention of a blacksmith in the 1850s in Harwarden but no name is given. Sorry not to do better, but it may interest you to get your local library to find a copy for you.
Toby.

http://maps.cheshire.gov.uk/tithemaps/

This is a link to the Cheshire Tithe maps, it is quite useful but doesn`t give occupations.
Sometimes there are clues.
You can use search by name or place.  I spotted another Dale, a son perhaps ?

Josiah Dale, another blacksmith , born Sproston was married to a Sarah Ann. I cannot make sense of her birthplace in 1861 census [ age 26]. Spools Heath is put forward but I cannot find any such place. Can anyone help?

That seems a possibility but there does seem to be an 's' at the end of the first word. T
