Prenton is near Birkenhead which comes under Cheshire

Was he on holiday or working in Canada?  What are the circumstances that you already know of?

How old was he when he died?  Which Canadian state did he die in?

Eric worked for a company called Bowaters he was in the Merchant Navy.  He was born 1935 he was aged 24 at the age of death.  All I know is he drowned in one of the Great Lakes unfortunately no idea which one.

I've PM'd J.J. on the Canadian boards to see if she can come up with an answer for you ,now we know exactly where and when Eric died.

She's very clever  ;D
