William Henry KEMP
« on: Wednesday 07 July 10 12:16 BST (UK) »
Could anyone confirm the parents of this man who is an ancestor but given his name my searches have been limited to when he was born and schooled - to 1881?   As a man i have had no luck in finding him.  Maybe he died young.

Parents:  Henry and Emily Catherine Kemp.
Born:  1867 Whitechapel, Middlesex, England

A close call is another William Henry Kemp who went to Bundaberg, Qld.  I'm not convinced as yet that he is my man as a couple of trees have his birth years as 1869 and nothing else.

I'd really love to get linked with something on this chap!
He was my grandfather's oldest cousin.

Regards
Julie

One of my Kemps to Queensland?
« Reply #5 on: Sunday 08 July 12 22:05 BST (UK) »
Hello again.
Apparently one of my English Grandfather's Kemp relatives, likely a cousin, moved to Queensland.  My late father related how his father did mention this but no details clear enough.  His name was either William Henry or Arthur George Kemp.  Or it could be Harold or George Bower Kemp.  All 4 men had the same father, Henry Kemp, but 2 different mothers involved, both of whom were Emily Catherine (Wm & A) then just Emily for Harold and George B.
Wm has been searched for previously here and elsewhere and the only one likely was a Bundaberg man; but from his Qld marriage cert which i purchased i find some inconsistencies with a couple of names - also the birth year was not exact, although close.
As for Arthur i have it that he had married in England in 1906 to an Emma Elizabeth Wadkins, and i think she died in 1950 in England.  I have them together on the 1911 census UK.  Harold and George were twins born in 1884, and they each married in England before 1920.
Any chance to find out please?!
Kind regards, Julie

Hello Neil.
Thanks very much.  However this is the central fault with the record for this WHK:  i know his mother was EMILY CATHERINE KEMP - her maiden and married surname.  Emily's mother was SARAH/SUSAN YOUNG! My thinking has been that perhaps with the loss of his mother when only 4/5 years of age, his memory may have been a little faulty!  Hard to say.  iT IS HOWEVER RATHER REMARKABLE TO HAVE SUCH CLOSE NAMINGS.  After some initial contact via Ancestry i think i had contact with descendent of this Bundabergian WHK and found that he had named several of his children with names [if i recall correctly off the tomh] like Henry, Emily and one other.  There were a good no of WHKs born in Middlesex in that era.  I'm really struggling with this man.  I'd love to find out if he left England with much pain, even anger, that his father, Henry, remarried 7 years after the death of his first wife and mother to WHK and Arthur George Kemp.  My WHK's stepmother was another Emily - Emily Jacklin.  This surely could have been a trial for the young boys.  Emotionally confusing and all that.
So thanks again Neil.

Julie, I've found this, myself, with branches on my tree; - the reliability of the details noted on the DC depend not on what the deceased might have remembered ... but on what was remembered by whomever reported/registered the death.  So if it was, say, WHK's younger son who registered the death, there's no guarantee his memories of dates, or his grandparents' names, would be reliable, ...

Unless, of course, said younger son was "one of us"! :)
