Census lookup - James Graham JACK
« on: Thursday 23 October 14 01:53 BST (UK) »
James Graham JACK born 6 Feb 1829 Paisley - parents Alexander & Isabella

James JACK & Martha MORRISON
Marriage: 10 March 1863  Bridgeton

I'd like a look up please for James in 1851 and 1861. He is with family in Paisley in 1841 but not sure if he is in Lanark in 1851 and 1861.

Thanks,

Fred

Hello sancti,

I don't have a copy of the 1863 marriage. I'm currently out of credits and I'll get some more when I have added a few more records to the list to look up.

A daughter was born in Queensland in 1868 so they arrived some time between those two dates. I've not found them yet in shipping records so I have no occupation from shipping record either. James had a general store in north Queensland in Watsonville.

I have no death for Alexander. It looks to be between 1841 and 1851.

Not seeing him in 1861 several trees has a record for him in the army ? so it might be worthwhile getting his marriage certificate to see what it says ...Don't know if you have this
Australia Pioneers Registers James Graham Jack b 1830 Paisley parents Alexander Jack Isabella Graham ...Married  Martha Morrison 10th March 1868 Glasgow ....Elizabeth 29/7/1868 Mary River ..James Jamieson 2/9/1870 Mary River Mary Agnes 20/10/1872 .....

There is also a record for William Jack b 1834 Paisley married Sarah Blackley his occupation was also storekeeper and tin maker ......Is this his brother ?

Hello Rosie,

Thanks.  I've not came across any tree that suggested James had been in the army so that's interesting.

Yes, William is a brother. The JACK family is in my tree because of the marriage to Sarah BLACKLEY and also because of this marriage in Queensland.

The Brisbane Courier (Qld. : 1864 - 1933) - Wednesday 7 July 1926  p.22
MARNANE - LINEDALE.
A quiet wedding was celebrated by the Rev. Hugh Paton on Monday afternoon at St. Stephen's Church, Phillip-street, Sydney, when Mr. Maurice William Marnane (son of Mr. and Mrs. William Marnane, Atherton Queensland) was married to Miss Isabel Linedale (daughter of Mr. A. T. Linedale, Atherton Queensland). ...

Maurice's mother is Elizabeth Kerr McLUCKIE, my great-grandmother's sister.

Not sure about that arrival per 'David McIvor' because it lists a Mary aged 33 and that does not fit for Martha. The marriage and death and birth reg for three children all have her name as Martha.

Watsonville Pioneer Cemetery
Jack  Martha     23 Nov 1897  63y

I've seen the Pioneer register and it lists Martha's parents as John MORRISON and Elizabeth REID. Martha's death reg didn't list her mother's maiden name. Still no help finding a baptism for Martha.

I can't find Martha either in the census. I'd say this is a different one - dau of a James & Jane.

1851
Civil parish Barony
County: Lanark
Address: 6 Cannle Street
John Stevenson  Head 30  Spirit merchant  Glasgow
Jane  Wife 24  Glasgow
Jane  dau 1  Glasgow
Martha Morrison  Sister in law 12  Glasgow
Mane? Stevenson  Sister 16  Glasgow

Regards,

Fred

Viewing the marriage record will confirm her parents names and whether they were still alive at the time of the wedding.

This will allow you to search for their deaths and take you back a further generation

Hello sancti,

Yes, I need a copy of the 1863 marriage.

I'll do what I can meanwhile. Looking for a death for an Elizabeth MORRISON nee REID finds this one which does not fit:  1888 Lanark, aged 49.

Regards,

Fred
