Mary Ann Moody
« on: Wednesday 17 December 14 08:36 GMT (UK) »
I am hoping someone can help me again regarding Maria Anna Murphy aka Mary Ann Murphy.
She was born in  June 1895 in N.U.T her father drowned in the River Lea in Cork in 1897.Her mother was Elizabeth Carrick.
There has been no trace of her anywhere but think she may of gone to live with the Moody family and was known as Mary Ann Moody.
She married a James  Vincent in 1912 under the name of Mary Ann Moody.
Has anyone got access to records of marriage certificates or her birth certificate hoping it may be proof she was Mary Ann Murphy.

             Thank you
                Ann

There is a birth reg for a Mary Ann Moody q/e Dec 1895 Newcastle, vol 10b page 125 so this seems likely for the Mary Ann shown on the 1901 census with parents James and Margaret. So she may be the one who married James Vincent in 1912 rather than your Mary Ann ( Murphy). You probably already have Mary Ann's baptism record but if she was born in June 1895 this looks right https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JQH9-N3X

Just out of interest why do you think she may have gone to live with a Moody family?

Thank you both for this info.
As there was nothing regarding Mary Ann Murphy after her birth I was lost for where to go.
But my grandfather Francis son of the Francis who drowned in Cork1897 ...   never did find what he was doing in Cork...Was very very close to Mary Ann Vincent they lived opposite each other and he left her everything in his will that's what made me follow the route of Murphy to Moody.

registered as Maria Anna Murphy June 1895
father Francisci Murphy and  mother Elizabeth Carrick on family search.
the death registered is not our Mary Ann as we have the certificate.
other records show her as Mary Ann Murphy ,Francis Murphy and Elizabeth Carrick
had a brother Francis and a sister Margaret Elizabeth.

What made me wonder was my father took his stepfathers name Murphy but was never adopted by him.

As her father drowned in 1897 and there was nothing for her after her birth I thought perhaps she had been sent to live with perhaps a relation. We were always made to call her aunt but never any of the other relations.

Also Francis sister Elizabeth Margaret died young and her son was put to live with the Jackman family.
