The friend's name looks like Wm. Fisher to me.  The passenger list seems to indicate that he was in the US before in New York.  The column that asks for the year or period of years that he was in the US looks like it says 1907 and 2 1/2.

I have asked a global moderator to move this question to the US board, where you will probably have more help in finding more information.

Page 1 of 1909 passenger list - http://www.rootschat.com/links/0yf0/

The Ellis Island site has been having some problems, but you can try searching for it at www.ellisisland.org if the links don't work.  The manifest says he was in the US from 1904-1908 and was living in Jamestown, New York.

Thanks shelley for your help . Joesephs was born 1876 Glasgow Scotland and a stonemason . Appears he came home a few times and his mother Agnes lived till 1937 so i presume a bit of contact was kept up .

Did he have any other relatives in the US?  Any further information about his son?

It looks like the 1907 passenger list has him as single, but the 1909 one appears to have him listed as married, although the M is a bit hard to read.  Considering that he was going to join a friend in New York, maybe it's worth checking to see if he married in Scotland while home?  Maybe his wife came over later?

On the SS Caledonia from New York to Glasgow arriving on 10 Nov 1907, there is a Joseph Taylor, stonecutter, Scotch, male.  Perhaps that was when he went home before returning in Dec. 1907.

She arrived on the  SS Columbia on 3rd of August 1914 and with her is an Arthur aged 9 months  :) Cant make out where shes going to ,  somethimg Del , then another name . Seems Joeseph sailed out the month after he got married and if im reading this correctly has Lucinda been in the states before she comes over with the baby .thanks Ray

It looks like she was going to husband Jos. Taylor, Genl. Del. (meaning general delivery), Cambridge, Ohio.  I think it says "no" where it was asked if she was in the US before.  It gives her place of birth as Glasgow and the son's as Niagara Falls, Canada.
