Edna Viola EVELYN from Barbados
« on: Wednesday 26 March 14 17:06 GMT (UK) »
Edna Viola EVELYN was my great aunt. Born In Barbados on 21 Dec 1899 she emigrated to the US in June 1924 arriving on the Guiana on 12 June 1924. On the manifest she gave her occupation as seamstress and intended address as Brooklyn, NY. Family rumour had it that she left Barbados to marry an American man (name not known) but I can find no record of her after her arrival in New York. Can anyone help please?
Many thanks.

There is a New York City marriage index at www.italiangen.org, but I don't see her there.

The 2nd page of the passenger list says that she was going to join her cousin Mrs. Maple Maynard, 718 St. Mark's Ave., Brooklyn.  Do you know anything further about this cousin?

No I didn't even see a second page! Thank you Shelley for finding that. It's possible she may have gone to Massachusetts or gone to marry a man from there. I found a marriage for a Viola Evelyn in 1925 in Boston but only the index, no other details.
Volume Number:1
Page Number:17
Index Volume Number:88
Do you know if it's possible to get more information from these records?

There's a Viola Evelyn in Boston in the 1920 census that wouldn't be a match for yours, so that may be the one on the marriage index.

This appears to be the cousin Maple/May in the 1920 census - https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/MJPK-MJY?cc=1488411

And in the 1930 census, at the same address as on Edna's passenger list -
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/X4LF-Y3S?cc=1810731

A marriage for Rupert Maynard & Maple Barrow in 1911 in Kings Co. (Brooklyn) is on the groom's index at www.italiangen.org

WWI draft registration card for Rupert Maynard - https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/KXY4-HK4

Some possible matches for cousin Maple/May

1910 census - https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/M5W4-PTQ?cc=1727033

1925 New York state census - https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/K9BZ-TJ4

1940 census - https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/KQLY-874

1906 passenger list to New York - https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/JFZR-Y3R

1923 passenger list - https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/JN7C-JMX

Naturalization index - https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XGFT-8ZL

On the death index at www.italiangen.org, there is a death for Rupert Maynard in Kings Co. at age 44 on 8 Aug. 1935.
