Help please for McGraths in Carran Beg
« on: Sunday 23 June 13 21:32 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I am stuck and don't know what to do next.

I am looking for the following:

The death registration for Bernard McGrath, Carran Beg, Fermanagh. The registration district should be Ballyshannon. He was born around 1851 and died between 1911-1921. His name is crossed out in the Griffith's Valuation Revision book and changed to his son-in-law and it is dated 1921. I suppose the land could just have been transferred but I was assuming he died around then.

The death registration of his wife, Ellen McGrath who, according to the censuses, was 54 in 1901 and 74 in 1911! I smell a state pension scam....

The marriage of Bernard and Ellen. According to the 1901 census they married around 1882.

The birth of their daughter, Mary Jane who was born around 1885.

The death registration of a Bartholomew McGrath. Unusually, Bartholomew's name is not crossed out and replaced with Bernard's in the Valuation Revision book, it changes directly. In one book it is Bartholomew (1883-1900 book) and in the next  book(1900-1911) it is Bernard so I have no date.I am guessing somewhere close to 1900 as there were revisions to nameS around Bartholomew's dated 1898 so, unless they forgot to cross his out, I am hoping he died between 1898-1900.

I am not being lazy- I have looked and looked for these people and am confused about not being able to find the BMD's because of the dates- they are years after civil registration began.

If you are still reading then thank you!

Any help would be most appreciated.

"The birth of their daughter, Mary Jane who was born around 1885."

Possible registration:
Mary Jane Magragh, July/Sept.1885 Ballyshannon registration district, volume 2 page 9

Ugh, thank you. I just noticed on an old post of yours that you had people on Wapping Lane who are buried in City Cemetery- so does my husband, lol.

Is it still the case that Northern Ireland BMDs from 1922 are not searchable online?

Thank you!

Yes, the online civil registration index only goes up to 1921 for Northern Ireland counties.

Looking for McGrath Marriage
« Reply #6 on: Wednesday 03 July 13 01:25 BST (UK) »
I am looking for a marriage between a Bernard McGrath/Magrath/M'Grath/Magragh/McGra/McGraw and an Ellen McGrath/Magrath/M'Grath/Magragh/McGra/McGraw. According to her daughter's birth certificate, her maiden name was the same as her married name. They were married sometime around 1882. I am assuming Fermanagh because they lived there but suppose it could be anywhere. The census says 3 children born, 1 living (who was Mary Jane in 1884).

I looked on Familysearch.org, Ancestry and Find My Past but no luck.

Thank you!
