Michael O'Kelly of Kilmeedy
« on: Tuesday 02 September 14 08:24 BST (UK) »
Michael O'Kelly lived at Gurtnacrehy Farm in Kilmeedy south of Limerick. His wife Kathleen died in 1956 and is buried in Kilmeedy and we think Michael is buried in Sixmile Bridge north of Limerick. Can anyone see a record of Kathleen's maiden name and also Michael's birth/parents?

Do you have a possible birth date for Michael -  Or any names of children if any- any more details would help.

I don't have Michael's date of birth. He and Kathleen had 12 children and the youngest (or one of the youngest) was Ann. Michael erected a gravestone in Kilmeedy for his wife Kathleen (died 1956) and daughter Kitty (died 1971).

Do you know how old Kitty was when she died or any of the other childrens names, might help put a time frame on them.
Family Search birth indexes shows mothers maiden names from late 1920s to 1958 so if we had a few names to search for we might get one showing for some of the children.

I don't know how old Kitty was when she died. Some of the other children were Patricia, Margaret, Gerry, Francis, and Patrick. Some of them went to England and some stayed. Gerry and Francis certainly stayed and took over the running of the farm (Gurtnacrehy) when their dad died.

There is an entry in the civil registration index for a death of a Catherine O Kelly in 1956 age 90 Tipperary registration District (which would not cover Kilmeedy) Quarter Apr Jun  vol 3 page 353. If this is a possibility - would give a birth year about 1866. If as you say Michael was alive after 1956 its possibly unlikely that this is the correct death.

If you could give any approximate ages it would help.

Just saw this death which is more likely - Katie Kelly age 76 (b.c.1880) Kilmallock reg district Apr- Jun 1956 vol 5 page 175.

She should show in the 1911 Census possibly married by then if she had 12 children.
