Shearman & Delaney Look Up Please
« on: Sunday 14 August 05 09:29 BST (UK) »
I am researching the following families of Kilkenny

John Shearman born abt 1838    Parents Thomas Shearman and Julia Brian

Thomas Shearman born abt 1830  Parents  John Shearman and Bridget

Maria/Mary Delaney born abt 1839  Parents Percy Delaney and Johannah Grace

Each of these children migrated to Australia and settled in Ballarat, Victoria
Anything you can find would be most appreciated.

Thanks

Hello

I noticed your Johanna Grace.

I have a Johanna Delaney and was wondering if you have a Michael Delaney in the family. Johanna would have been born abt 1880. I have her father as Michael Delaney.

Johanna married James Bolger from Gowran, Kilkenny in liverpool, lancs.

I am trying to make a connection with the Delaney family as I have little information.

Thankyou

Kristina

Hello Theresa

I do have your family in my notes.
Mary bor 13 May 1874
Bridget born 18 May 1877

I did note that another Patrick Bolger married a Bridget Lanigan 28 Feb 1878 in Graiguenamanagh, Kilkenny, Ireland. I haven't found the marriage of Patrick and Julia though.

Do you have anymore information

I have Simon Bolger (possible Patrick as a brother) who married Ellen Hennessy circa 1864
There children are
Maria bor 1865  Gowran, Kilkenny
William    1867
Ellen       1868
James     1871  my GGrandfather
Agnes Catherine  1873
Margaret Bridget   1875
John Dennis           1876 born Boherbue, Kilkenny

I have transcribed all of the Bolgers with children around this circa 1860 - 1880 and I am trying to match up Simons siblings with the naming patterns. Bridget is the most common name and Margaret at this stage.

I do have a Dennis Bolger who married Mary Anne Cullen

They had William born 20 Feb 1876

I believe Simons father was William Bolger (yet to find) going by the naming patterns of all the children I have found in this area.

I haven't found any death certs for Simon Bolger or Ellen Hennessy.

James Bolger born 1871 my GGfather came to Liverpool circa 1900 I found him in the 1901 census living as a boarder with a Bridget Delaney (Cullen) which was Johanna Delaneys sister. James Bolger married Johanna Delaney in Liverpool 1904.

Hope this helps.

If you need any information about other Bolger familys in Kilkenny don't hesistate to write, we may be able to put this puzzle together.

Kristina

Hi Kristina,

I was reading through your posts and recognise some of the names and details from my own family. My father Joseph Patrick Bolger was born in Liverpool in 1914. His mother was Johanna Delaney. However, I had understood that his father was called Patrick (I could be wrong on this). My father told me his family came from a village called Whitehall near Kilkenny (this place is now called Paulstown).

I'd be interested to see if we are talking about the same family.

Many Regards

Janet

Hello Janet

I found another post of yours and I apologise for not replying.
James Gerard Bolger (my grandfather) and your father Joseph are brothers.
James Bolger and Johannah known as Annie and married as Ann Delaney are there parents.
James parents are Simon Bolger and Ellen Hennessy
Simons parents are Stephen Bolger and Mary Walsh

Stephen came from Ballyogan, Graiguenamanagh, Kilkenny, Ireland
Simon and his siblings lived in Whiteshall and now called Paulstown.
Simon was a Master of a school and I have documents about him when he started at a Model School.
When Ellen his wife died in 01 Sep 1881 Simon remarried to Mary Sheehan 18 April 1898 Paulstown, Kilkenny
Simon also had a brother Patrick who was a shoe maker.
Another brother John Bolger born 1832 Graignamangh, Kilkenny was also a shoe maker.
He went to Liverpool and I found him living with a Hennessy family at 29 Gilbert Street, St Thomas, Liverpool,  Lancashire, England
In 1861 census he lived at 60 Jordan St, St Thomas,  Liverpool, Lancashire, England until 1901 the family lived at 32 Bridgewater Street, St Thomas, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
John died Sep 1903, Liverpool he married 1865 to Mary Doyle born Kilkenny, Ireland they had Stephen, Ellen, Elizabeth, Mary

Kindest regards
Kristina

Hi All,  I might be able to add to this puzzle as some of the names you have mentioned are in a family tree that I am compiling for my son. All of the below where born in Gowran, Kilkenny with the parents being Walter Bolger born c 1840 and Bridget Langton born c 1841. Can't find birth or marriage record for these two.

But, Margaret 1866,  Anne 1868, Kate 1869, Margaret 1871, Daniel 1872, Patrick 1874, James 1875, Anastasia 1877, Martin1878, Walter 1880, Maria 1883, Ellen 1885 where all from Gowran.

Walter Bolger b. 1880 is my wife's great grandfather. I couldn't find a marriage record for Walter senior & Bridget Langton in Kilkenny but there is a marriage record in Gorey, Wexford of Walter & Bridget Bolger in 1872. On some of the birth records it says Bridget Bolger Langton. Walter Bolger Junior married Anne Byrne in 1911. Also, I can't understand two daughters with the name Margaret.
Hope this helps a little. Regards Terry
