Robert N Rosborough was registered as Robert Rosborough and was baptized as Robert Rosborough, I have found no records which will tell me what the "N" stood for................ but I have a strong suspicion it may have been Norman. My Grandfather was named Robert Norman Rosborough which would have been after his uncle....................anyone got any thought or clues on this one?

Thanks Alan.

Found that the three brothers were born to a John Rosborough and came from Ballyhanedin in the Parish of Bannagher Co Londonderry.

I searched the Griffiths Valuation and found a John and Joseph Rosborough in two houses on a plot of land leased from the Fishmongers Society.

I went yesterday and found the location of the house but unfortunately it is only a pile of stones over which a new dwelling has been built.

Would welcome and further suggestions or comments with regards to this research.

Many thanks to all who have posted so far.

Alan.

Hi Derry Boy -  Looking for a Nancy Rosborough married to a James Woods pre 1836 - do you have any knowledge?
In 1836 James and Nancy were living in Coolhill, Kilrea.   Their son John Woods was married at the Kilrea 1st Church in 1836.
Thanks and regards - Dinny.

Thanks hallmark for posting this response to my initial query, which I had found since originally posting the query.

Just to add to your comment I recommend that when searching for the name Rosborough on the Census returns, because there are so many variations in the spelling, it is best to search using a wild card in the following format

Ros*

In this way all surnames listed Ros are returned meaning Rosborough, Rossborough, Roseborough, Rosborrow etc.

Agettna, all my Rosboroughs are from Ballyhanedin Banagher and Foreglen location. Oldest ancestor was John Roseborrow his son was John Roseboro born circa 1829 Ballyhanedin, married 20th August 1850 to Nancy Ross at Boveva Church of Ireland. Died 1st March 1899 and is buried in Banagher Presbyterian Church. Could this John Rosborough be the one named above born circa 1825? we believed he had two brothers, but no firm proof other than Joseph and John lived beside each other according to the Griffiths valuation maps plot 5D houses a and b, and  a headstone is in Banagher Presbyterian Church to memory of Joseph and James from Ballyhanedin. All would match with your details other than the father of my John was John and not David and I cannot find a David at Ballyhanedin recorded on the Griffiths Valuation records.

I have also tested my fathers Y-DNA and both he and I have tested our Autosomal DNA all with Family Tree DNA and would be delighted to hear from anyone interested in taking  a test or who has taken a test and would like to get in touch.
