Please date photograph of 3x great grandmother Martha Walker
« on: Saturday 23 August 14 16:15 BST (UK) »
Hello

This is a photograph of what we assume to be my great, great, great grandmother Martha Walker. She was born in 1842 and died in 1930

I do not know what date this photo is, could someone please help in dating it?

I think its the 1880s, but I could be wrong

my thanks

Thank you, yes she does look like a beauty. The resemblance between her and my mother is striking

It will be interesting to see what the daters say to this one - China and Jim where are you? - but imho I think this attractive young lady is in her twenties here, putting it, if it is your greatx3 grandmother, in the 1860's.

And I don't think this picture is 1860's, but rather later.

Could it be the next generation?

My great granduncle said it is apparently my 3x great grandmother.

Once he said something about my great great aunt Martha, but she was born in 1893.

This photo is definitely Victorian

It is possible it could be Frances Miller, my great great grandmother born in 1875, but he said it wasn't

I'm sure they will ask to see the entire photo, up to and including the outer corners, and also the back of the photo if there is any writing on it, as these are important for dating purposes  :)

I don't have an online picture of the border and back of the photograph

It is however a restoration of a photo on a cabinet card, with a black border at the bottom with the name of the photographer H Andrews of Maryport Cumberland

The back of the cabinet card is red with golden floral patterns and leaves and the photographer H Andrews and location of photo studio with golden letters
