Dating please - Preston, Lancashire, Family Group

I'm really baffled as to who the people are in these 2 photos (named Unknown_Group - Photo1/2).  I think that some of the same children are in both photos - and presumably a family group ?

I would appreciate opinions on date taken for these and also any thoughts on the ages of the subjects. 

Photo 1 is larger than post-card- size and is approx. 13.5 x 10 cm, mounted on thick card, mount card size is 22.5 x 14.5 cm. Mount has rounded corners, there's nothing at all on back of card. The writing on the left of the photo says Phil Waine Photographer, Day and Electric Light Studio, 56 Friargate Preston.

Photo 2 is post-card size (see also back) with very slightly rounded corners.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

I've made them a bit smaller as it's hard to see properly scrolling about.
The second one is the earliest, 1905-10 & may even be up to WW1.
The 2nd. looks to be a bit later.
I can't say for sure if the girl on the left in the 2nd. photo appears in the middle or the right of the 1st. but I don't think the other 2 in the 2nd. are in it.
So it looks like a family with a least 6 or 7 children.

My thoughts are exactly the same about the girl on the left in photo 2.

However, I also thought the girl on the right in photo 2 might be the girl on the left in photo 1 - and the young boy might be the same in both photos.  I'd welcome any opinions on this.

I can't imagine these photos being anything other than a family group.  Do they look like siblings, either in their looks or manner ?

Jim, I understand what you're saying about which is the earliest.  But, somehow, I felt photo 1 might be slightly older (it just looks and feels older to me) and the photographer's wording "Day & Electric Light Studio" seems older.

There are elements in both photos that indicate photo 2 is the earlier by a couple of years.
I don't know if you've noticed but the chairs on the left are the same.

I would say there is a strong chance that the girl on the left in photo 2 is the same girl in photo 1....but I don't think there is a match with the other girl....partings usually stay the same throughout life....but I agree with Jim that they are all siblings.

Dear Malcolm,

After searching through some family photo albums, I noticed some of the photos (which were taken potentially during the 1920s/ early 30s) were taken/printed at the same location: Phil Waine, 56, Friargate, Preston. A lot of our ancestors were born and lived in Lancashire, some in Preston specifically.

Upon stumbling across this forum and your photographs, I potentially noticed the same little boy in our family photographs. I think it is the same child...our photograph maybe taken later. Unfortunately we only have a photo of the photograph so can't see the back, (but we are searching for it!). We suspect the woman in the second photograph is our great grandmother. The little boy in your two photographs (and ours) could be John Barklay, born 1899 to Elizabeth Gardiner (1864). Elizabeth had seven children: 
William 1890
Clara 1892
Maud 1895
Gertrude 1897
John 1899
Jane 1902-1902.
Mabel 1904-1959.

Hi Fiona and welcome to RootsChat, there is an uncanny likeness to the two boys in the other photos.
They look like they could be from the same family.
