Richard Thompson died 1944 Douglas
« on: Thursday 12 May 05 15:05 BST (UK) »
I would be very grateful for any information about Richard Thompson who died aged 82 in Douglas Mental Hospital in 1944. He came from Lancashire around 1913 and was "a commission clerk" in 1901. Any advice as to a method of search, post census,  is very welcome!

After reading your post of 2005, I found Richard THOMPSON's Probate record - probate was granted 15 Feb 1945 to his son, William Eccles THOMPSON, chartered accountant. His effects amounted to 35.14s.3d. he died in the Hospital Braddon, Isle of Man on 27 June 1944
He had been married to Amy ECCLES ( in 1887), and had 3 children - sadly, 2 died young, and it appears the marriage broke up before 1901. He was the son of a wealthy cotton Manufacturer, Richard THOMPSON and Eliza ROBINSON, and had a number of brothers. He had been in partnership with his father and 2 brothers but wanted out by 1895- there is a notice of the partnership being dissolved in the Gazettes online

His wife died 1937- here is her probate record:
Registry:   Manchester, England
Otherwise Amy ECCLES of Pontesbury, Robertson Rd, Buxton (Wife of Richard THOMPSON). Probate granted to William Eccles THOMPSON, Chartered Accountant and Gideon HOLGATE, Bank Cashier. Effects £38,065.5s.2d

Cheers
Jocelyn
