Pronunciation of XPOER - COMPLETED
« on: Monday 12 May 14 08:50 BST (UK) »
Hi, I have ancestors from Brunton (1600's) with the Christian name XPOER. I was wondering if anyone would know the correct pronunciation of this name?
Thanks

Where did you find this name? Are you certain it isn't an abbreviation of a longer name - Christopher, for example,  which I have seen occasionally contracted to Xtoper

Hi Jen, I found the name at freereg.

I like your idea of Christopher. XPOER's mother is XPIAN.

I just did a search on XPIAN and found this;

"Xp" is actually the Greek Letters Chi Ro, short for Christ and commonly used as Xpofer for Christopher. I presume Xpian is therefore Christian, or maybe Christiana.

Thanks Jen, I think it must be a transcription error and should be Xpofer.

I like your idea of Christopher. XPOER's mother is XPIAN.

Possibly meant to be Christian?
