Unoitear - Who/What???
« on: Friday 01 January 10 23:43 GMT (UK) »
I just found this birth record for a relative:

Births Mar qtr. 1889
Fuller, Lydia Unoitear, Burton, vol. 6b: 347

I have checked the original image and as far as I can tell, Unoitear is what it says. But I can find no reference to any name like this in the family (going back over three generations on each line). Even just googling the name brings up no results at all.

So I have no idea what to think. Lydia was living with her parents in Derby in 1911, and I can find no further trace of her to help verify the middle name. Does anyone have any idea what her name could really be?

Thanks,
Alexander

Hi Alexander

I agree that the 'original' looks like Unoitear, but bear in mind that the real original, from the registrar's office, would almost certainly have been hand written so maybe something got lost in translation  :)

If you say it out loud it sounds a bit like Unity - is this a possibility?

If you give us all the information you have for her and her parents from 1911, someone might be able to track her down in 1901 and 1891.  We love a challenge  ::)

Thanks for your reply Linda. I actually have all the details of Lydia before 1911, it's just the period after that - and her middle name - that I can't figure out. Her parents were William Fuller and Sarah Ann Frecknall. I have traced the ancestry a little way on both lines (but me being related through the Frecknalls).

1891 census: No. 52 [Scalpcliffe?] Rd, Stapenhill, Staffordshire (Ref: RG12/ 2200, Folio 20, Page 3)
William Fuller, Head, M, 36, Coachman, Employed, Staffs Abbots Bromley
Sarah A. Fuller, Wife, M, 36, Notts Caunton
May Fuller, Daur, 6, Scholar, Derbyshire Stapenhill
Lydia Fuller, Daur, 2, Derbyshire Stapenhill
William Robson, Boarder, S, 22, Gardener, Employed, Staffs Burton on Trent

1901 census: 24 Maborn St, Stapenhill, Staffordshire (Ref: RG13/2647, Folio 15A, Page 23)
William Fuller, Head, M, 46, Coachman (Domestic), Staffs Whittington
Sarah Fuller, Wife, M, 46, Notts Caunton
May Fuller, Daur, S, 15, Staffs Stapenhill
Lydia Fuller, Daur, 12, Staffs Stapenhill
Gladys Fuller, Daur, 7, Staffs Stapenhill

Thanks,
Alexander

The only other thing that I can suggest is that you get the birth certificate and see if that sheds more light on her middle name

Thanks for the advice, I think I'll try to find the baptism first - and if not that, then it has to be the certificate.

A recent revelation, courtesy of Lydia's marriage certificate:

Unoitear === Juanita

Glad to have this solved at long last!
