Mexborough Trade Directory Lookup

Hello 

I have been told by my Grandfather's cousin that one of my relatives was a retired painter at the time of his wife's death, from Mexborough, which means he'd be on the Mexborough Trade Directory in the library I assume?

Is there anybody around Mexborough who could possibly look him up in the library? I live nowhere near Mexborough, or else I'd do it myself!

Not sure how much info is needed, but he was George Russell Venables, born 1864 and died 1960. He was married to Emma Venables who died 1936 and he was retired by then.

I've never done any of this before so I don't know what details are actually written down, but whatever is listed to be honest!

Like I say, I have no experience of this so don't know what is disclosed!

Here goes...I have searched through Trade directories for 1893,Mexborough and,zilch.The other directories in our collection ie 1822,1849 and 1852 are too early.
However,'Ancestry' in their UK city and County directories 1761-1946 show 4x Venables in Mexborough.In the above programme these persons can be found in the Kelly's Directory insert on Page 741.
I have trolled through Kelly's,Baines,White's  and Pigot's Directories but...nada.
However(again)...In Ancestry under 1841 census we find JRV and family in Staffordshire...
G R Venables...Lower Gomsall
Robert  "     ...Lower Gomsall
John     "     ...Upper Gomsall
They are described as being "bagging,sheeting and huckaback manufacturers"

It would appear that George Russell Venables did not appear in a Trade Diectory

I think you may find that George Russell Venables was a printer -not a painter - and it looks like one of the family followed in his footsteps
He was a printer in census - maybe "painter" was a mistranscription -easy mistake to make
