Los Angeles Times 1927
« on: Saturday 24 August 13 15:19 BST (UK) »
I need a look-up, please, in the Los Angeles Times, 11 March 1927.  There is an article about the death of Claude J. Beckett who, I believe, died from eating poisonous mushrooms.  I'd like to know the details.

What was your source of information about this article?  The citation or mention did not include a mention of what page the article was on, correct?

I don't recall where I found the reference to the LA Times article and I have no page number.  A related item appeared in the Santa Ana Register on 12 March 1927.

"Mrs. Claude J. Beckett and little son, Jackie, age 7, and Mrs. Beckett’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Merle Thompson of 415 French street, are booked by the Union Pacific to leave tomorrow on the Continental Limited, accompanying the remains of Claude J. Beckett, who died as the result of poisoning from eating toadstools, to Youngstown, O., for interment. They do not plan to return. Mr. Thompson came to Santa Ana for his health, which he has almost recovered. Mr. Beckett was a lineman for the Pacific Telephone company."   [Santa Ana Register, Santa Ana, California, Thursday, March 12, 1927, Page 3].

Thanks, shellyesq.  That pretty much answers the questions I had about why the family was in California, with added detail on the mushrooms.

Thanks for chasing down all those articles, knort33!  What a gruesome way to go.  I did know someone who almost died from mushroom poisoning - zero blood pressure when he was brought in to the hospital but, fortunately, there was better treatmment available by the 1970s and he survived the experience.  Not that he was ever allowed to forget it because he was a professional mycologist who grabbed the wrong bag of mushrooms out of the fridge and threw them into the frying pan without looking at them closely.
