I'm trying to find a will/some other document to find out the parents of a Thomas Jones who died in Trewyn, Corwen in 1719 (Will dated 1720). He was a Yeoman who farmed a place called 'Ty Isa' - hoping this can help find his parents! I estimate he would have been born ca.1660.

Thomas Jones married a Margaret Roberts and had the following children: John Thomas Jones b.1687 who live in Carrog, and a Catherine, Hugh, Elizabeth & Margaret.

I've found a wealth of information here: http://www.gwynedd.gov.uk/datrhagorolnet/RhestrEitem.aspx?iaith=en&rhif_archif=12&rhif_rhiant=61745&maint_testun=100&cyferbyniad=&rhif_tudalen=1
just can't match anything up!

Ty Isa is somewhere between Trewyn/Llygadog/Carrog - if anyone can find it on the map or knows anything about this place it would be a great help too!

I've found a place called Ty Isa.Go west on this map from Carrog past Plas-yn-Bonwm Farm till you come near to what is given as a disused railway line,it is just past Plas Derwen and before Colemendy Lodge.

WRJ,

Thanks again for your help in finding this. Do you know perhaps which area this comes under? Would it be Trewyn or is that just the area north of the river?

Many thanks,
Jones9

I can't find Trewyn but the Ty Isa I found would be about halfway between Carrog and Corwen.

Sam - thanks for finding this will, as always very much appreciated!

WRJ - Many thanks too for looking this up.

Here's another place I need to decipher: Bodginvel. It should be somewhere in the Corwen area, I think possibly a small township/house. If anyone knows what it could be then let me know!

If you have FindMyPast you can get an idea of the extent of "Trewyn" by using this as the address search term in the 1841 or 1851 census. The properties generally  are  between Clawdd Poncen and Carrog(e.g. Pentre Trewyn). The list does not include a Ty Isa but the addresses are obviously close to the one WRJ identified. If you go to www.old-maps.co.uk and use the search term "Ty Isa" you will find five listed as Corwen (I think the WRJ one is Holyhead Road)

Roger

Ty Isa just outside Corwen

If "Bodginvael" is in the Corwen area, could it be Bro Dinmael. Bro is Welsh for Area or district, so it would translate as Dinmael District, the area or district in which "Dinamel" is situated.
http://cy.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dinmael (can click on "English" version to a part of the translated paragraph).

Thanks for your replies!

Those websites with old maps are really useful, I didn't know about them before!

I'm not so sure about that unknown place though. I found it mentioned on the Rhagorol catalogue again and all the other places seem to be farms/townships, so I'm trying to find a small farm or similar with a similar name. Does anyone know where I can find a list of such place names, such as what Despair mentioned?

I no longer have access to FindMyPast unfortunately but any suggestions for finding this place are welcome.

Thanks,
Jones9
