Just looking at the ages given on the various censuses and the marriage cert. They do vary:

1851 - 16  born circa 1835 or 9 born circa 1842
1863 - 24  born circa 1839 (marriage)
1871 - 24  born circa 1847 (I checked the image and it is 24  ::) )
1881 - 45  born circa 1836
1891 - 49  born circa 1842

I'll have a look at 1861 and a possible death, I think

Added - nothing jumps out on the 1861 or deaths  :-\

Hello, it first be said that what you are all doing is fantastic I feel I should be doing this myself, if you wish any payment I will be happy to pay, even if it is a small fee. The info youve provided is priceless. Tahnkyou so much :-*

I know Alexi had a son called James Ross who married Jane Fyfe Russell in 1912 in Glagow (I havent found his death certificate, was dead by 1949), its posible Alexi was there (Glasgow). Other than that I cant be sure, sorry :-[

Thanks again you brilliant people. This is great ;D

Hi Matthew

You get on with those A levels and we'll do what we can!

First, on the 1912 marriage cert, does it say whether Alexa is dead or not - 'Deceased' written after her name in the parents' column.

Gadget

Added - but don't just collect names and dates - get some History in as well. I think there are some Scottish History refs on one of the threads on Scotland General.

Nothing obvious on Alexa's death Matthew  :(  Might she have married again. I have searched with and without M(a)cleod. It might show it on the marriage cert.

Ok Gadget now Im confused. I apologise but Ive just noticed this. Although her maiden name was McLeod, on James' Jane marriage cert., it sayd her maiden name was Ross. Is it possible that James couldnt remember, his mother may not have been present at his wedding.
We've definetly got the same Alendrina though, William Ross is on James' marriage certifiate as a deceased crofter

 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Found her under Lexy  :)

Holytown, Lanark

9 Feb 1913, Lexy Ross, widow of William Ross, crofter, aged 75 - parents as before. Donald Ross, son was the informant.

This gives a birth date circa 1838.

I did notice a Lexy McLeod on the 1841 - I think in Coigach - what a turn up if your ancestors came from up here  :D
