Looking for 'Back Claire Street, Liverpool'
« on: Sunday 01 August 10 07:22 BST (UK) »
Hi Everyone, Ive recently located a burial record for St Nicholas' Church in Liverpool and im trying my best to order a death certificate for that relative, without much success. This relative died in 1852 and is listed as having lived at 'back claire street' somewhere in liverpool but without a more specific area the registry office say theyre unable to issue a certificate. The street no longer seems to exist according to googlemaps so im a little lost. Has anybody got a clue of the area this street was in at all please?

Thanks for you help,
luke

Checking the 1881 census, where you can do a search by streetname - Clare Street appears in District 23 of Islington, St Anne's Ecclesiastical District.  The Enumerator's Walk reads

Part of the City of Liverpool comprising Springfield Street North Side from St Anne Street to Christian Street.  Clare Street both sides and Courts from Springfield Street to Myrtle View.  St Anne Street West Side and Courts from Springfield Street to Great Richmond Street.

If you check the current maps you would see Springfield Street on the east of St Anne's Street, but I would think that Clare Street, with Back Clare Street, would be to the West of it, between there and Christian Street.

Thanks guys, im going to send off again for the certificate today.

My relatives name was Mary Jones Evie. She was a widow at the time and aged just 40, I think this was a very short term residence for her and she may have had one of her two sons living with her at the time - Robert Halsall Jones or Uriah Halsall Jones.

Thanks again, hope this works

1851 census
Breck Lane, West Derby, Lancashire
Uriah Halsall Head M 76 Bricklayer Liverpool, Lancashire
Maria Wife M 77 " "
Mary Jones Servant Wid 37 Servant " "
Uriah Jones Lodger 14 App. Litho Printer Oxton, Cheshire
HO107; Piece:  2192; Folio:  977; Page:  15

Somebody has saved this census image to private trees on Ancestry and also have submitted a correction as Uriah was transcribed as Norah.  This happened in 2008 and another in 2009, but I have sent a message to the contacts to see if they will look at this post and respond.
