Hi,

I did a search on the 1871 census for "Leith Walk" in address box only. I went through all results, and never got any in number 9, in fact, no one under 14 Leith Walk, I wonder if part of the 1871 census was missing. There were some strange addresses Leith Walk Nursery No 1, 2, 3 ,4 & 5, Even a Leith Walk Caravan.

Sorry, no further forward.

I would agree Tom. That's why I wondered where the birth would have been to see if it tied in with the address when John had his tramcar accident.
What a pity the family are so elusive. Maybe there is a gap in the Leith Census records for that year.
Looby :)

Hi,

In 1899, 7 and 9 Leith Walk were converted to the Central Bar, which is still open today. History here - http://thebarbiographer.blogspot.co.uk/2011/08/central-bar-leith.html

Hi Looby, definitely think part of the 1871 census is missing. Unfortunately cannot get a result on SP either.

Thanks again to everyone for your help.
After searching on and off for several years I suspected that part of the census must be missing.
I had tried ever member of the family with or without a surname and nothing turned up on any website.

You probably know that Brabner and Brebner are variants of Bremner - have you looked under this spelling?
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Hi Forfarian,

As Judith says, I have also tried searching without surnames juts using christian names, and also just searching with "LeithWalk" and "9 Leith Walk". I could not get results lower than 14 Leith Walk, the 9 Leith Walk was turned into the Central Bar around 1899, and is still open today. It can be seen clearly on Google maps.

I wonder who could advise us, if part of the census is missing?
