McCONNON Carrickmacross to Liverpool and Australia
« on: Saturday 04 September 10 20:20 BST (UK) »
My maternal grandfather James McConnon was born in Carrickmacross 1892 and came to Australia in 1914. His parents were Jim and Anne LAMB. To the best of my knowledge they had 11 children (6 boys 5 girls). Charles Philip who married Catherine CARROLL and went to Liverpool and had a pub there and they had 5 children. A son died Dieppe WW11. Bridget who married Thomas MURRAY and had 4 children. Catherine (Kitty) who married a DURDIN and had children and lived in Dublin for a time. The other three sons were Joseph, Patrick and Philip but I have no information on them. The three other girls I have as Nan, Lizzie and Maty but no other information, two I believe became catholic nuns.
James married in Sydney had 3 daughters in Perth, then moved to SA where two more daughter and a son were born. Only the youngest daughter still lives. There are another three generation scattered around Australia and UK.
I would like to expand on the information I have on James's siblings, his parents and their siblings and grow the tree further into the ancestral line.
Any information would be appreciated.

Not sure exactly what resources you have already checked or are searching for, but there are a number of McConnon families listed in the county on the 1911 census - see McConnon, Co. Monaghan

If you can find the Jim & Annie and family on the census it would help you search for their marriage and the cert would show their father's names and occupations..

for details on order BMD certs etc see : Introduction to Irish Records

A possible marriage for Jim/James and Annie from the BMD Index, which you could use to order a marriage cert :

 Name: James M'Connon
 Registration District: Carrickmacross
 Event Type: Marriage
Quarter and Year: Jul - Sep 1881
 volume  2  / page : 355

 Name: Anne Lamb
 [same index details]

Thanks for that Shane
yes that marriage looks good
on the 1911 census she is recorded as married 31 years
1901
Residents of a house 9 in Corcrin (Ballymackney, Monaghan)
1911
Residents of a house 3 in Corcrin (Ballymackney, Monaghan)
I believe is the correct family as the last child Cathrine was born between census

Hi Bob,

I know you posted this a couple of years ago but if you are still looking for information on this family I may be able to help you out as Patrick McConnon (son of Jim and Anne) was my grandfather on my fathers side.

If you are interested I may be able to fill you in on some of the people you had little information on. With a little help from my dad of course, he has all de stories  :)

As for myself, I have recently moved to WA and would be interested in knowing about what family I have around Australia if you have the time to fill me in.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards
Maria McConnon
