Hello. I have been here before some good time ago and have had paid research which all yielded little, so would like to go again!
Born Nov 1891: either Cape Town or Durban.
Parents: Harry Mowat Hamilton Miles & Agnes Paterson Ferguson
Her father: died in Kimberley 1899: i have unformal documentation of his death; he was English, possibly a journalist who went to find his fortune but got sick then died. They did live in Cape Town and i think Harry ran a pub, and got into financial difficulties, which resulted in legal actions. Had been a Freemason and whatever Lodge it was (unable to find) they gave financial assistance (presumed) to aid Agnes return to Australia with her 3 youngest daughters, Nanna being the eldest. Agnes herself had arrived here [Aust] as a baby, married Harry in Moama, New South Wales, and returned to England with him, had more children, then out to SOUTH AFRICA with him where she had the remainder of her children.
I don't know exactly when they arrived in Melbourne but it was in the first decade [very early i think] of the 20thc. Unable to find their arrival on public record as yet. I have a Victorian 1903 electoral roll which shows them living in an inner Melbourne suburb.
Other members of Nanna's family, brothers in particular, went to, and left, South Africa: records have confused me as they don't always give the full name.
Any help would be wonderful.
Thanks,
