Royal Navy persons in the 1841 census
« on: Wednesday 20 March 13 19:29 GMT (UK) »
I have Henry Charles Young born 1828 in Bury St Edmunds Suffolk. I can not find him in the 1841 census. I know where all his siblings are at that time. He is a Midshipman in the 1851 census visiting with relatives in Mildenhall Suffolk as a visitor.
Henry moved later on to NZ and settled there.
Is there a way to find sailors in the RN in 1841 census?
Thank you
Hera Toutai

I think the short answer is no. It is only from 1861 that you are likely to find a sailor serving on a ship. However, there is a service record for a Henry Charles Young, Naval Cadet, on the NA website, unfortunately the timeframe is from 1756-1917 so this might not be your man, but if it was me I'd risk the £3.36!

I have found out that he served in the Merchant Navy. Is that different from the RN? Thanks
